An innovative nonprofit in southwestern Virginia, dedicated to youth and community.
Guiding Good Choices ©(GGC) is a science-based evidence-based parenting program that targets parents of 3rd to 8th grade children. This is a strong curriculum that assists parents in helping their children through the tween years.
To date, the program’s Social Developmental Model has reached approximately 2,500 parents and adults through formal presentations, resource sharing, special events, and training courses provided by the Council.
Training is can be arranged to become a GGC trainer. Varied presentations can be adapted for school settings, multi-week sessions, and time-specific considerations. In 2006, for example, we adapted services to accommodate the non-English speaking Bantu tribal woman, at the request of Refugee Immigration Services.
The Council has been the sole provider of this evidence based parenting program since 2001. Please contact the Council to set up an individualized parenting program that fits your specific needs.
As a nonprofit 501c3, we've been dedicated to building stronger, healthier communities since 2001, together.
Jail Parenting Program
In 2012, the Prevention Education Coordinator and her volunteer staff began offering a female-inmate parenting program inside the Western Regional Jail. To date, that program has served over 200 women, impacting over 250 children.
A series of 8-week programs are facilitated by certified Council trainers. Our newest partnership is with Choices Recovery Center. We welcome new volunteers to assist with this program.
You can find a media segment about the women who attend these classes, here.
